IGUDAN, the Dan Region Association for Environmental Infrastructure, and Mekorot will establish a National Center for Water Education and Innovation at the Shafdan complex near Rishon LeZion. The campus covers 2 dunams and will hold laboratories, training rooms and co-working space. Mekorot expects to invest up to NIS 15 million, about 4 million dollars, in the first phase and will use the site as a test field for pilots. Construction was slated to begin in early 2026 with the first researchers arriving in the second half of 2026. The same report states that Shafdan treats wastewater from more than 2.5 million residents in over 20 central Israeli municipalities and recycles effluent for farms in the Negev and Arava. The centre is a research campus rather than a water supply scheme and is recorded here rather than as a row of its own.
