An embankment dam with an inclined central clay core, filters and transition zones and a compacted limestone rockfill shell on schist, 106 m at maximum height, 468 m crest, 12 m crest width, 426 m maximum base width, a labyrinth spillway rated 750 m3/s and a 55 m3/s bottom outlet, instrumented with nine accelerographs by the Centre National de Recherche Appliquee en Genie Parasismique; built from 1982 and impounded in 1986; total capacity 145.6 hm3 regularising 142.39 hm3; the reservoir is filled largely by pumping from the Beni Amrane intake and by diversion from the Hamiz dam as well as its own Bouzegza and Oued Boudouaou catchment; siltation is very low at about 0.05 hm3 a year against a mean inflow of 32.30 hm3.
