The study area section states that Baghdad has three wastewater treatment projects, Al-Rustamiya South, Al-Rustamiya North and Al-Karkh, and that Al-Rustamiya serves the eastern side of the city, the Rusafa side, discharging to the Diyala and thence the Tigris. Al-Rustamiya is described as the oldest such project in Iraq. The South station, comprising the old works F0 and expansion I (F1), has worked since 1963 with a design capacity of 175,000 m3/day against an actual flow reaching 300,000 m3/day, serving 1,500,000 people. The North station, expansion II (F2), has worked since 1984 with a design capacity of 300,000 m3/day against an actual influent of 450,000 m3/day from a further 1.5 million people, with final disposal to the Diyala. The plant records used were supplied by the Al-Rustamiya plant office of the Mayoralty of Baghdad and cover March to December 2011. The same section gives the Karkh plant a design capacity of 205,000 m3/day, which matches the figure already carried in the register's Karkh Wastewater Treatment Plant row. This row was previously headed Rusafa Wastewater Treatment Plant and carried no source and no verification date. No facility of that name could be documented. Baghdad's Rusafa-side sewage works is Al-Rustamiya, and the row is renamed and sourced to it. The former coordinates were unsourced and have been cleared. Coordinates added on 20 September 2026 from OpenStreetMap way 85892606, named Al-Rustamiya Waste Water Treatment Plant, at 33.2752 44.5339. That polygon is the South station: the map places the node مشروع الرستمية القديم, the old Rustamiya project, on the same ground. The North station lies 1.5 km further north at 33.2885 44.5327, mapped as way 4469784, مشروع مجاري الرستمية. Reverse geocoding returns Baghdad al-Jadida in the Rusafa district of Baghdad, which matches the study's Rusafa-side description.
