South Lebanon water utility opens a control centre funded by the Red Cross
Lebanon's Ministry of Energy and Water reported on 9 October that the South Lebanon Water Establishment had inaugurated a SCADA control and management system, under the patronage of Energy and Water Minister Joe Saddi. The project covers the upgrade and rehabilitation of the central control centre, administrative offices, power facilities, servers and operating equipment. The minister thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its contribution "through this grant"; no cost was published. According to the ministry, the system lets staff follow water production and plant operation directly, find faults quickly and spot abnormal flows that may indicate leaks. Director General Wassim Daher said attacks on the establishment's facilities and staff, and the 19 colleagues who died on duty in recent years, make continuity of supply a priority.
Why it matters. Minister Saddi said the aim is more regular and reliable supply, and that this depends on continued staff training and maintenance of the system.
